A question often asked in both casual and formal discussions.. “Hey! whats your leadership style?”
This topic has been studied extensively and people have been trained to get classified in the pre-defined categories, however my personal viewpoint is that people, and specifically those in the leadership roles in business can’t be mapped to a single style of leadership.
Leaders in the business world must be versatile to be effective. They must be adept at quickly grasping the group dynamics and demands of the business, and adapt themselves to lead within that context. They must be well versed with multiple techniques of influencing and implement those for effectively.
Let’s not box people (and, specifically people in leadership positions) in quadrants of any kind, without a situational context. If you are hiring for leadership roles, consider reframing this question. Create different scenarios & assess adaptability instead, as thats what truly matters in dynamic business environments.
So, my answer to this question is: “It depends!…”
